The Mindful Diet Day 29
Week 5: Have More Fun with Your Food
There’s a good chance you’re getting bored with your same-old green smoothie for breakfast, kale salad for lunch, lean meat-and-veggies dinners, and chia-seed pudding for dessert. Now’s the time to mix up your repertoire, says Kristeller. “Having fun right now will help you stay motivated to make it through this plan,” she says.
Day 29: Invest in a new kitchen gadget.
Maybe you’ve had your eye on a spiralizer that’ll make veggie “noodles,” or you’ve always wanted a microplane to easily zest spices and citrus over your food for low-cal, antioxidant-rich flavor. Treat yourself. “If cooking’s no fun, you’ll reach for unhealthier convenient foods and take-out,” says Laura Lagano, RD, an integrative nutritionist in Hoboken, New Jersey.
I have so many amazing kitchen gadgets: from specialty avocado and bagel slicers to tad/dash/pinch/smidge measuring spoons to the World's Best Kitchen Gadget winner Saladmaster Machine, I always have something flashy going on in the kitchen. But I've had my eye on 2 new gadgets in particular: a spiralizer and a scale. Although the scale seems like the healthier option, I opted for the more fun option: the spiralizer. There are a variety of styles and brands, but you can find some good deals at your local Marshall's/Ross/TJMaxx or there's always good ol' Amazon. I have saved so many recipes over the past year or so for the day that I finally get a spiralizer, so I am so excited to share some!
