My Enlightened Delights

To enjoy good health,
to bring true happiness to one’s family,
to bring peace to all,
one must first discipline and control one’s own mind.
If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment,
and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him.

The Mindful Diet Day 31

Week 5: Have More Fun with Your Food

Day 31: Win without Instagram.

Search #foodporn on Instagram and you’ll see more than 52 million pictures of crave-worthy food. While the food photos are a great way to get new recipe ideas, scrolling through too many and posting your own shots on social media may boost unhealthy cravings and contribute to weight gain, according to a new study in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior.

One of my favorite things to look at on social media is food...and dogs. My feed is basically food, dogs, craft beer, and the occasional friend or family member. Although I have more "healthy" foods in my feed, there's still the occasional dessert or treat that shows up to make me crave something sweet. Even if you're not following junk food profiles our friends, family members and celebrities can't stop sharing what they're eating.

The best way to counteract these cravings is to avoid following too many junk food pages, always have something healthy to eat readily available, and don't be afraid to treat yourself every once in a while. It may seem hard to chow down on your packed salad when you're scrolling through donuts on your lunch break, but if we treat ourselves in moderation we won't be as easily convinced into drooling over cupcakes on IG all week until we finally cave.
